Visit Siena by train. Lost in the Tuscan countryside, Siena is a beautiful city and it is possible to explore it all on foot or by bicycle. Rich in medieval palaces and churches, it is a fantastic starting and ending point for a tour of Tuscany and its beautiful countryside in every season of the year. Among the things to see absolutely in Siena there is certainly the famous Piazza del Campo, where the Palio is held, one of the most famous horse races in the world. Together with Florence, the city is one of the most important centers of the region with its ancient part that dominates the horizon from the top of a hill.

Right on the hill, in the historic center, stands the Cathedral of Siena, considered one of the most important and significant examples of Gothic architecture in Italy, famous for its magnificent rose window and its spiers: a feast for the eyes. In its surroundings there are the splendid medieval villages of San Gimignano and Monteriggioni which deserve a thorough visit to get lost in timeless places.

What are the main attractions of Siena
Siena is a city rich in history and art. Not to be missed are masterpieces such as the Baptistery and the Church of San Domenico and, again, the Palazzo Pubblico. This medieval palace was built in the thirteenth century and today houses not only the town hall but also works of art famous throughout the world, including the Baptism of Christ by Piero della Francesca and Moses by Michelangelo. If luck brings the visitor to Siena in September, it is impossible to miss the opportunity to attend the Palio di Siena. The event dates back to the Middle Ages and originates from the riding competitions that the knights of the city held to impress the nobles and the public.

Finally, for those who love art and want to be impressed by the Italian culture in the places from which it originated how to forget a visit to the Baptistery, a 12th century Romanesque building with inside works by Donatello such as the Baptism of Jesus, capable paintings to take anyone's breath away.

The cuisine of Siena
Arriving in the city also means being able to enjoy its delicious, typically Tuscan cuisine with the Florentine steak and Chianti as the highlight of a splendid evening. Trying the extra virgin olive oil typical of the Sienese countryside is truly unique as is getting lost in the culinary specialties such as pici, a homemade pasta.

The city is a real paradise for those who love good food and good wine. In fact, in addition to the typical homemade dishes, among the foods to be tasted, the Tuscan cured meats such as raw ham and colonnata lard but also the typical cheeses of the area to try with specially made jams or alone with a good glass of local wine.
