Visit Monza by train. Monza is a city in Lombardy, the smallest in the region. A real jewel where there is no shortage of green spaces and monuments to visit. The Monza racetrack has hosted the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix every year since 1922 and is one of the key places to visit in the city. The Villa Reale in Monza is a beautiful place. Another formidable point of interest in Monza is Villa Mirabello, a 14th century palace, recognised as one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Lombardy. The original structure was commissioned by Giovanni Visconti and later redesigned by the Sforza family.

In Monza, literature enthusiasts can visit the Church of Santa Margherita and San Maurizi, where the real Monaca di Monza, a famous character in Manzoni's Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed), lived.

Finally, right in the centre of the city stands the Duomo di Monza, of Romanesque origins and today a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. The cathedral is flanked by two bell towers, one cylindrical and the other octagonal. The octagonal bell tower is 22 metres high, dates back to 1108 and is considered the highest tower in Italy. The apse of the cathedral is a sight to behold with its important works of art painted by Giovanni Paolo Lasino and Giuseppe Meda.

The cathedral is also so important because it houses the Iron Crown, a relic of the Christian and ancient worlds. The kings of Italy were crowned with this crown for centuries and it is said to have been made using the iron from one of the nails from Christ's cross.

For those who feel hungry after crossing Monza's famous bridges over the Lambro river, the city offers many specialities such as ossobuco, gnocchi with gorgonzola and torta sbrisolona.
