Mini Guide, what to visit in Belluno e Rome.
Visit Belluno by train. Belluno is a pretty Veneto town at the foot of the Dolomites and is also a great starting point for exploring the natural beauty of these mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cortina d'Ampezzo and the Vajont Dam.
Also not to be missed is a visit to the Piave River, the most impressive view of which can be had by walking over the Ponte della Vittoria, an imposing construction inaugurated by King Victor Emmanuel III himself.
Belluno is a city that hides incredible secrets, just waiting to be discovered. Let's start with Piazza Duomo, from which you can admire the National Civic Museum and the Cathedral of San Martino. The cathedral was built in the 16th century with a simple stone façade, a bell tower over 70 metres high and a beautiful Baroque portal. For art lovers, the cathedral houses works by Schiavone, Palma il Giovane and Bassano.
The Palazzo dei Rettori immediately catches the eye with its Gothic windows intertwined with Renaissance decorations. Today it houses the Prefecture of Belluno, but it was once home to the Venetian government that dominated the city and this is visible in the majesty of the two loggias and the large portico. Don't forget to visit the Clock Tower that dominates the south-east corner of the palace.
Walking a little further on, you can admire Piazza Mercato, known as Piazza delle Erbe, which originated from an ancient Roman forum. In the centre stands the city's oldest fountain: the Fountain of San Lucano, and it is completely enclosed by splendid Gothic-Renaissance buildings such as the Loggia dei Ghibellini, Casa Miari and Monte della Pietà.
Finally, the tour of the town cannot end without seeing its gates: Porta Rugo, was the ancient access to the town from the river port on the Piave River, and Porta Dajona, the best-preserved access between the walls that enclosed the town.
If you are in Belluno, you cannot fail to try its typical specialities, excellent especially after a day spent discovering the local beauty. An excellent choice is to start the meal with Schiz or Piave DOP, two typical Belluno cheeses!
You can then continue by trying a traditional dish such as sponcio maize polenta or pastin and dress it all with Valbelluna wine or local beers: Dolomiti and Pedavena.

Visit Rome by train, the Italian capital elected a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With its great beauty Rome is one of the most visited cities in the world. Unmissable destinations of a weekend in Rome are the Imperial Forums and the Colosseum, mindful of the glorious Roman era, St. Peter's and the Vatican Museums, the Pantheon monument, which can be visited for free and the Trevi Fountain, restored thanks to the investments of the historic Italian fashion house Fendi.
To admire the breathtaking view of the roofs of Rome you can go up to the Janiculum, to blend in with the real Romans you can choose Testaccio, to find the secret places the advice is to look for the Coppedè district or the Giardino degli Aranci, while in the evening you get lost between the alleys of Monti and the taverns of Trastevere.
But Rome is also shopping, around Piazza di Spagna are some of the most beautiful streets in the world such as via Condotti and via del Babuino, where you can shop for luxury Made in Italy such as Armani, Dolce and Gabbana and Prada, while Via del Corso with its international chains is a real open-air shopping center, which extends from Piazza Venezia to Piazzale Flaminio. To visit absolutely on a Christmas weekend or on New Year's Eve to admire the installations and lights, which decorate the city center competing with the rest of the world.
Where to eat in Rome is, however, only an embarrassment of choice, an excellent cacio e pepe or the amatriciana will make you take a dip in the most authentic Lazio cuisine; for authentic Jewish cuisine there is the Ghetto, for the trendiest and youngest clubs, but also an economic trattoria the Pigneto and San Lorenzo districts or the new area between Garbatella and Ostiense offer everything from Castelli wine to good sushi Japanese.
The capital is also a city of great events: do not miss the opening of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy wanted by Pope Francis on 8 December and reaching Rome by train to attend the papal audiences will be the right choice.
